Jesus the God from the Old Testament?

Posted: April 1, 2011 in Me and God, Me and people, The Bible

I was studying and preparing for our men’s Bible study and I came across one of those “wow treasures” in the Bible that I couldn’t pass but tell to all of my two readers 🙂

From time to time you come across people and cults who say that Jesus was a good person but not God; they say that Bible doesn’t actually say Jesus was God. I wonder what they think about this:

Place and time:
– Kingdom of Judah (Maybe Jerusalem), year 740 BC
In the book of Isaiah chapter 6 we have the record of Isaiah seeing God (God the father, Jehovah) in His ‘glory’. Isaiah describes Him as “sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple” -plus some other details.
A little while later (v8), God himself says: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?”
Isaiah responds: “Here am I! Send me.” Then God warns Isaiah that some of the people to whom the good news will be preached, will not want to believe –even though they may ‘see’ miracles’, to the point that God will harden their hearts.(v9-10)

– Jerusalem, ~32 AD
Now, fast-forward some 700 plus years and find Jesus right after His triumphal entrance in Jerusalem and just a few days before the crucifixion. John tells us in his gospel record (12:37) that “although He [Jesus] had done so many signs before them, many still did not believe in Him [Jesus]” and then John states (v38) that this very fact was fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophesy in Isaiah 6:10; the passage we just referenced above:

“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts,
Lest they should see with their eyes,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them

Now, get ready for the kicker:
After this moment when John is quoting Isaiah’s words, he notes:

“Isaiah said this because he saw Jesusglory and spoke about him.” (John 12:41)

Get it? John is writing about Jesus from verse 37 and how they did not believe in Him. He continues and reveals to us an astonishing fact when he writes that Isaiah said these things when Isaiah “saw Jesus’ glory”. But when you look at Isaiah’s passage, whose’ glory did Isaiah see ?

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord” (Isaiah 6:1)

Yes, Isaiah saw The Lord God The Father; Isaiah saw Jesus, Jesus is God. Jesus is who He said He was; Jesus is God the father -in human form as the Son of God. And He died on the cross and rose proving that He was who He said He was.

Fast forward 2,000 years…
Today, your place, 2011 AD.
What are you doing about Jesus’ claims?
