Death sucks

Posted: September 18, 2010 in Me and God, Me and people

A few days ago a friend of mine was telling me how his sufferings and abuse as a kid were somehow making difficult his acceptance of God today….

Last week, a young lady we knew, passed away after a long batlle with various illnesses…

This weekend, another good friend of mine is facing the horrible possibility of losing his father..

It reminds me of the passage when Jesus was faced with his good friend Lazarus’ death; the one time in which Jesus wept and groaned….  It is not that it caught him by surprise -I don’t think so. It is not hat he couldn’t do anything, cause he could -and he did. It is not disappointment on Martha and Mary for doubting His response. I think that He was just sad about the suffering and pain that sin and death causes, has caused and will cause in people’s lives; it is plain sad, upsetting -seeing good people facing bad stuff.

It is so upsetting that it pumps me up to battle; yes, the devil wants to hurt us and confuse us; he has brought pain to humanity… and we can do something about it, we can take Christ’ victory and defeat suffering with hope. Eeah person who hears about Jesus’ work in the cross and salvation by faith though grace, ..and accepts it, is one more person freed from eternal condemnation and a life alone without God on earth.

Even the dead of a loved one looks different when we know their eternal destiny is secure in Christ.

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

Death sucks; Christ rocks!

Yes…to that I would have to agree. Of course, we in modern America like to hide death as much as possible.
